Warning Signs and Symptoms of Emotional and Behavioral Disorders

  • Regular worry or anxiety
  • Persistent sadness and irritability
  • Frequent angry or aggressive behavior
  • Repeated refusal to go to school or take part in normal children’s activities
  • Decline in school performance
  • Frequently disobeys parents and teachers
  • Unable to deal with problems
  • Withdraws from friends and family
  • Changes sleeping or eating habits dramatically
  • Unable to pay attention; easily distracted
  • Preoccupied with violence; death or suicide
  • Hallucinates; out of touch with reality

If your child, or a child you know, exhibits any of the signs and symptoms described above, help is available. Contact the Federation of Families of South Carolina and we will assist you in finding help for that child.
