Girls with ADHD show other mental health risks

Girls who have attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are more likely to develop mental health problems before adulthood, a new study has found. Anxiety, depression, and eating disorders were the most common problems, but many also had abused drugs or alcohol at some point. The study’s authors say they do not believe this means girls should be given larger doses of stimulant medications during childhood, because there is no evidence that the meds help ADHD patients avoid other psychological problems.
