Recovery Month event planners and organizers are vital to raising awareness about the benefits of recovery and mental well-being in the community. Whenever I attend Recovery Month events, I am always inspired and energized by those who devote their time and efforts to plan exciting and impactful events, spreading the message that recovery is possible.
Every year, SAMHSA shows its appreciation for Recovery Month event planners and organizers by honoring them with the Community Event Award Program. The winner from each category will receive an all-expense paid trip to attend the 2012 Recovery Month luncheon in Washington, D.C., where they are recognized for their commitment and accomplishments.
The Community Event Award application deadline was recently extended, allowing 2011 event planners and organizers to submit their event for consideration by March 30. Events can be entered into one of four categories: rally and walk/run events, educational events, special celebrations, and SAMHSA-sponsored events. Organizations may apply for one Award Category per year and Award winners are not eligible to receive awards in consecutive years.
