Family Support Networks

Join us February 23 at 6:30 pm for a Pizza Party

The Federation of Families of SC and Youth M.O.V.E. SC are having a PIZZA PARTY for the Richland/Lexington Parent Support Network and Youth M.O.V.E. Network meeting. The Parent Support Network meeting is for parents/guardians of youth who have received services from a mental health or substance abuse professional, have been involved with foster care or had any contact with the juvenile justice system. The Youth M.O.V.E. Network meeting is for the youth ages 12 and above who have been involved with these systems. Youth can bring their siblings and/or friends (also ages 12 and up) to the meeting, also! We need the expertise of youth to promote systems change!

The meeting will be held Thursday, February 23, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. Please contact Jenah Cason at 803-772-5210 or jenah.cason@fedfamsc.org for more information about the meeting or to RSVP. Please share the attached flyers with anyone who knows or works with families and youth who have experience in these areas.

Family Support Networks

The Federation of Families of SC assists parents of children with emotional, behavioral, or mental health disorders and/or substance abuse establish community parent networks. If you are the parent of a child or adolescent with emotional or behavioral difficulties you may want to consider participating in a family support network. By meeting other parents with similar experiences you know that you are not alone in what you are going through. Whether you have a child acting out at home or in the community by talking back, hitting, yelling, running away, harming themselves or others, being suspended from school or abusing drugs or alcohol you need help and support. Any of these behaviors can be signs that a child is being abused, bullied, or have some other type of problem going on that they don’t know how to handle. You may have a child that has been identified with Attention Deficit Disorder, Depression, Bi-Polar Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder or any other disorder that can cause problem behavior. If you are a parent of child with these difficult behaviors you are probably a parent that often feels you don’t know what to do or where to turn, you may find yourself in crisis or having strong emotions as a result of your child’s behavior. Being part of a network with other families experiencing similar situations at home, in school and with agencies and professionals can be a comforting experience for families who have felt they were the only parents having such an experience with their child. Call our office for assistance, we will connect you with a family support network or parent in your community, 1-866-779-0402.
