Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS) at Home

PBIS is a proactive way to help families and schools to create and maintain a safe, supportive, learning environment, promote positive life skills, and reduce negative behaviors. PBIS focuses on both individual and environmental factors and has proven to be more effective than punitive discipline measures, such as suspension and expulsion. PBIS at Home will provide families
with strategies to increase positive behaviors at home and at school.

Tuesday, February 22 & Thursday, February 24, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

Participants will:

  • Identify their parenting style.
  • State family strengths and areas to be strengthened.
  • Reflect on what is going well in their family.
  • Reflect on what they can do to make changes to build strong, connected relationships.
  • State family expectations for behavior.
  • Establish rewards and consequences for behaviors.
  • Develop a matrix of expected behaviors.

Key Messages:

  • Learn strategies to improve behavior.
  • Reduce disciplinary referrals.
  • Reduce calls home for misbehavior.
  • Help students maintain behavioral expectations at home and at school.
  • Set goals and celebrate achieving them.
  • Improve academic performance.
  • Forge a partnership with the school.
